The article is currently in final draft editing, so that means we are running for the finishing line.

worked out regarding Scripture and unbelievable copyright issues (imagine anyone prohibitively copyrighting God's Scripture!), so if you do have a copy of the 2010 draft, please do not distribute it.

In the draft article we mention that there were unresolved issues concerning the copyright on the Scripture used (many from the NIV).

A very helpful lady in the International Bible Society (USA) has got us the maximum permission she could with out us having to charge people for the use of Scripture in the article (and future ones).

But there was a price, we could only give photocopied copies of the articles to poor people (not well off people), and could only make or have downloaded a total of 200 (yes two hundred) copies of the article in all forms over the next two years!Copy of letter here.

So as we could not in a clear conscience say that only two hundred copies of the article would be given out in print and via the web, nor promise to only photocopy the article, nor that we would not give it to well off people, we had to decline the Bible Societies offer.

Further correspondence has still required us to cap the levels of distribution of Christian teaching which we can not with a clear conscience agree to — as we can not predict how many copies would be downloaded over a two year period. We have applied for the draft to be covered.

As this may be the first time you have heard about this bible copyrights problem, here are some links that explain the situation, it is hampering Christian work in many spheres.

We consider this a blessing in disguise, as it causes us to have to quote from other bibles as well, choosing the best, clearest, verses.

In any event, under a general copyright permission we can use the NIV up to 500 verses if needed anyway, and other versions as well.

So we will be praying carefully through each Scripture use, and looking to the best version appropriate for each use of Scripture.

Due to this and related problems, there are Christian businessman, who have paid out millions to have new copyright free, or copyright friendly, bibles made in modern English, by qualified Bible translators. Other innovative approaches have been taken as well, just as in the Early Churches days, the following links show some of that.
